Winter skincare

I wrote a post last December about all of my 2018 goals, some of which I am achieving, others I still need work. One of the things I wrote about was switching up my skincare routine, especially during the winter months and trying more-moisture rich products to stop my skin from getting dry.

So here’s my post on my current skincare products, some are old products which I have owned for a while but only recently started using again, some are brand new and some are my tried and tested, firm favourites!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo + £16

This product is described as an anti-blemish moisturiser, however I always use it in addition to my regular moisturiser and apply a thin layer onto my skin as a base to help even out my skin tone. I first started using this when I got home from New Zealand about nine months ago as I had started to get really bad acne when I was travelling (I still don’t know what caused it…) and this product claimed to help reduce marks and redness left over from blemishes. Within a few weeks I could definitely see an improvement in the redness I had and now my skin is drastically better! I don’t get many blemishes anymore but I still use this daily as seems to really help my skin.

Sanctuary Spa Ultimate Cleansing Oil £12

I used to be very sceptical about using an oil as a cleanser as I have naturally oily skin and I didn’t want to make it any worse. However I read lots of positive views on oils and how they can benefit even oily skin so I thought I’d give them a go. I bought this Sanctuary Spa Oil as it was a reasonably mid-range product just to try and I really enjoy using it. I only tend to use it once or twice a week as it can make my forehead break out a little bit because of the excess oil, but it winter when my skin has felt dry it has been a lovely product to rehydrate my skin and give it a thorough cleanse.

Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polish Mask £17

This face mask from The Body Shop is AMAZING! I got it for Christmas off my brother and have used it at least two or three times a week ever since. Ginseng is a really great ingredient to help brighten skin (I think, I’m not a skincare expert) and so the mask always leaves my skin feeling so glowy and healthy after I use it! It makes my other skincare products, such as moisturisers and serums, apply so much nicer as my face feels soo smooth. I also like to use it as a scrub when I don’t have the luxury of enough time to apply it as a mask, and I think it works equally as well this way because the rice in it means it acts as an exfoliator.

Vitamin C Glow Protect Lotion SPF 30 £15

This is a moisturiser I bought to take travelling with me because it contained SPF 30 which I thought was ideal as I HATE putting suncream on my face. Since then I pretty much forgot about it and was using lighter moisturisers as I found this one quite rich and thought it was too much for my oily skin for a day-to-day product. However due to it’s description as a ‘glow lotion’ for ‘dull, tired and grumpy skin’ I thought it sounded ideal for giving my skin a glow in the winter, which it has! I tend to apply it thickly over night to sink into my skin and then reapply a thinner layer for daytime.

Forever Living Aloe Vera Shampoo and Conditioner

Forever Living Aloe Vera Gelly

Forever Living is a brand which specialises in aloe-derived products. I suffer from eczema on my arms and hands, and at times when it’s really bad on my eyelids too, and this brand has been an absolute god-send to helping sooth and minimise it! The Shampoo and Conditioner leave your hair super soft and hydrated as well as caring for your scalp, something that most products from other brands don’t do. The Gelly is made from pure aloe vera pulp and helps to sooth dry, irritated skin really quickly without causing any irritation and making it sting! If you also suffer from eczema or dry skin I would definitely recommend this brand, they offer so many other products like aloe vera drinks, serums and other skin care.

New skincare I want to try:

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution £6.80

Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm £39

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these products or have any suggestions of new ones!
